Other Related Deaths Not Recognized as Line of Duty Deaths. It appears that “Line of Duty’ deaths were not categorized as well as they may have been or by today’s standards.. If the death was immediate, due to an incident, fire, accident or explosion there was no question. Other fire fighters who died of heart attack shortly after leaving duty were not always covered.
