Ernest Tyers was born on January 15, 1911 and was hired on as a temporary fireman during the Second World War on July 10, 1940.

His position was made permanent June 16, 1944. He rose to the rank of Captain and was in charge of Number 8 station at the time of his death.

He died at home after a day at work He left behind his wife and children.
