Albert
Picotte
In 1909 Janeville and Clarkstown villages amalgamated to become the Town of Eastview
In the shadow of Ottawa. The town had a poorly equipped volunteer fire department.
The town depended on the City of Ottawa for anything of a serious nature.
Eastview became the City of Vanier. Ottawa Fire took over protection of Vanier on July 1, 1985.
Vanier later amalgamated with the City of Ottawa in January of 2000.
On Monday January 6, 1919 volunteer fire fighter Albert Picotte suffered an injury at a house fire from which he never recovered.
Albert has resided in Eastview for 15 years prior to his death. Fire Fighter Picotte is the only fire fighter to die in the line of duty from the Eastview Fire Department and he lies in an unmarked grave in Notre Dame cemetery.
