John Lowry

While Guardian John Lowry of No.7 Station responding on a fire call to the Bronson and Weston Mill the hose reel hit a bad hole on Bridge Street near Duke Street, sending Lowry off his seat and under the heavy wheel of the apparatus.

He injured his chest and died, immediately. Fireman Alex Potvin, riding on the footboard, grabbed the reins and stopped the horse, but not in time. Lowry was 53 years the time of his death.

He was known to be strict trustworthy and fair as a leader.

He joined the Brigade in October 1886 as a member of No.1 Station and was made Guardian- Captain) of No.7 on January 1, 1890.
