Eugene Lecompte

Eugene Lecompte, Assistant Superintendent of the Fire Alarm section died as a result of injuries sustained at the corner of Springfield Road and Rideau Terrace when a telephone pole on which he was working snapped at the base plunging him thirty feet to the ground.

He was wearing his safety belt, which held him to the pole. The pole landed on top of him crushing his chest.

Eugene had joined the Ottawa Fire Department on June 12, 1911

And was promoted to assistant Superintendent in 1921 and died of his injuries the next day at the age of 41.
